The route for the proposed road can be made out on the Durham Vision 2020
website:
http://www.durham.gov.uk/durhamcc/usp.nsf/pws/Roads+-+Durham+Northern+Relief+Road
The map shows two route options, but does not make it clear that the road passes right across an area of green belt, starting with a roundabout infringing on an area of ancient woodland. It then passes along the side of a valley designated as an area of high landscape value, crossing the River Wear and the Weardale Way before continuing on concrete stilts through farmland to emerge in Durham City's conservation area. The road passes close to the ancient monument of Kepier Hospital, the gardens of Crook Hall, and the grounds of the Durham Light Infantry Museum. One route for the road would blight the lives of residents of Sidegate and Diamond Terrace.
